Georges Oudot French, 1928-2004

Biography
Georges Oudot was a French Postwar & Contemporary sculptor.

After studying at the School of Fine Arts in Besançon, he entered the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1946, where he studied under Marcel Gimond and Alfred Janniot. Then he returned to Besançon where he set up his studio.

He is considered one of the most significant representatives of contemporary figurative sculpture. He was also the author of numerous engravings and lithographs and several medals. He made many portraits including those of Pierre Mendès France, Edgar Faure (whose academician sword he created), Juliette Greco, Madame Pompidou, Léon Bourgeois and Princess Grace of Monaco.

His works are presented in about twenty museums including that of modern art in the city of Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, Besançon, Belfort... and all over the world: Lausanne, Vatican, Erlangen, Fribourg, Monaco, Skopje, Tehran...

He was a Freemason and awarded a Knighthood of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, the National Order of Merit and the Order of Arts and Letters.

Georges Oudot has received numerous prizes: Fénéon prize for sculpture, National Arts prize, Young Sculpture prize, Modigliani prize for drawing, Biennale sculpture prize, Tribute awarded by the jury for the Critics' Prize for his entire work.

Georges Oudot was Edgar Faure's cultural adviser when he was president of the Franche-Comté region. He participated in the creation of the CRDC, a regional center for cultural dissemination, of which he was for a long time the president. He created the biennial of plastic arts in Besançon and set up the first management committee of the FRAC composed of artists and craftsmen.
